We all hear the phrase 'Eco-friendly' these days on a range of different products around the home but what actually is 'Eco-friendly' and why should we be interested?
To understand why environmentally friendly or 'Eco-friendly' is such a big deal, we first need to look at why this alternative was needed in the first place.
Traditional cleaning agents contained a chemical called 'Alkylphenol ethoxylates' - this chemical is classed as 'bioactive' meaning they can react with living matter (animals, fish, people) with consequences ranging from mild to severe. As a result, these type of cleaners were phased out after the discovery of the effect this chemical was having on wildlife.
Present-day regular cleaning products still contain a high amount of chemicals such as;
1. Phthalates
Found In:
Fragranced household products, such as air fresheners
2. 2-Butoxyethanol
Found In:
Multi-purpose cleaners
3. Ammonia
Found In:
Polishing agents
4. Chlorine
Found In:
Toilet cleaners, mould removers
5. Sodium Hydroxide
Found In:
Oven Cleaners
Eco-friendly cleaning products, on the other hand, contain no harmful chemicals or nasties that could become toxic to you or your loved ones.
Surely chemicals clean better than natural products though we hear you cry! Fear not, most natural cleaning ingredients are just as good as their chemical counterparts, if not better.
Here at Mermaid Cleaning, we make most of our cleaning products in-house using only natural ingredients such as lemon juice, vinegar, baking soda and natural aromatic plants - for everything else we don't make, we use only all-natural products.
